Korean Flag – yin/yang part 1

Korean Flag - yin/yang part 1
Acrylic on Canvas 100cm x 182 cm (39″ x 72″)

Korean Flag – yin/yang part 1 is my view of the yin part of the flag (see Korean Flag – yin/yang part 2). The Korean flag (Taegukgi) has the yin and yang prominently in the middle with just pure blue and red. The circle in the flag’s center symbolizes balance in the world. The blue half represents the sky, and the red half represents the land. After painting numerous monuments/landscapes, I wanted to display the beauty of the culture and added the traditional Korean Dancers. The white background represents peace and purity. The four bars are the Kwae. These represent the four basic elements: The heaven (three unbroken bars), Earth (three broken bars), Water (one unbroken line between two broken bars), and Fire (one broken bar between two unbroken bars).
