When you go to Seoul today, you will not see this as painted above. After being burned down in a national tragedy, the gate was rebuilt. I was in Korea shortly after this happened and had the joy of seeing it rebuilt.

It still looks the same accept for the new walls, surrounding roads and security. Night Gate – South Gate Seoul was very difficult to paint, and as an artist this was by far my most difficult piece.  Making the lights from the cars and the soft blurry images of vehicles was a system of trial and error.  However it is a great representation of the modern surrounding the historic.
